After the Bentley SUV concept received a lukewarm response at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, its makers Volkswagen had almost shelved the idea of putting the car into production. But all that is to change now.
According to the recent reports, the controversial super luxury 4X4 is likely to go into production in the next three years. Currently, the Bentley team is working on finalizing the design of the car.
In what can be said to be an official confirmation from Bentley, CEO Wolfgang Schreiber confirmed that they are going ahead with the SUV that will be styled on the lines of other Bentleys and will look nothing like the EXP 9F concept car from the 2012 Geneva motor show. Schreiber further said that the concept car was not designed as a styling exercise, but gauge the market response to the idea of a Bentley SUV. “If you saw the styling, you would say, ‘That is a real Bentley,’” said Schreiber.
He also affirmed that the SUV will come with a V8 and will have W12 engine as an option. Bentley SUV will share its platform with the upcoming Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne. The outer shell of the car will be built in Europe while it will be assembled in Crewe.
