Maruti Suzuki India has been requested to pay Rs. 137.58 crore by Haryana Goverment for the land of Manesar plant.

The company is already fighting a legal battle against Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HSIIDC) which claims Rs. 501.24 crore as an additional compensation to be paid to the landowners at Manesar. The order has been reserved by Supreme Court. While declaring the third quarter results, Maruti Suzuki India said, "The demand of Rs 13,758 lakh for remaining part of land at Manesar was received subsequent to the quarter-end and the company is in the process of evaluating its legal options. The company's impleadment application in the pending appeal by HSIIDC, relating to the demand raised for additional compensation by landowners for land acquired from them at Manesar, has been heard and the order has been reserved by the Supreme Court against the demand of Rs 50,124 lakh.”

The company has not disclosed how much is the additional land area and the total amount of compensation that needs to be paid to the landowners.

The state government had asked MSI to compensate Rs. 235.40 crore to HSIIDC for farmers and pay an additional amount of Rs. 1,200 crore to HSIIDC.

HSIIDC has sent several notices to the company after it failed to pay the amount. HSIIDC had warned the company that if the amount is not paid within three months, the land allotted would be taken away. It has given MSI the option to make the payment in five half-yearly instalments along with 11 percent interest on the unpaid amount.
