Tata Motors’ Dharwad facility may be just 10 months old, but within this span, the plant has managed to set a record by rolling out 10,000 Tata Ace ZIPS. This facility, which commenced operations in March 2012, has been primarily involved in the production of small commercial vehicles like Tata Magic IRIS and Tata Ace ZIP.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ravi Pisharody, Executive Director, Commercial Vehicles, Tata Motors, said, “The small commercial vehicle industry has been growing at a steady pace. In FY 13, we have sold over 2.14 lakh vehicles, maintaining a growth of 26%. We continue to have a leadership position in the SCV market with a market share of 78% in the cargo segment and 79% in the passenger–carrier segment. The Tata Ace family today is a major source of livelihood generation. Tata Ace Zip has found acceptability from first time buyers as a self-employment tool and corporate and captive buyers. The roll-out of the 10,000th Tata Ace Zip is a testament to the value we offer to our customers. This move is integral to Tata Motors' leadership presence in the small commercial vehicles market.”

The ISO 14001 certified Rs. 900 crore facility of Dharwad, constructed as per the norms specified by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), is spread across a sprawling area of 405 acres. It is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and boasts of built-in flexibilities to assist the assembling of large numbers and different variants in mixed mode production.
