With India warming up to cars with automatic transmission, more and more manufactures are coming up with automatic variants of their vehicles. And the latest to join the bandwagon is Skoda. Skoda Auto India Private Ltd., the Indian subsidiary of VW Group owned Czech automaker, has introduced an optional 7-speed DSG gearbox in the Laura 157.8 bhp TSI petrol motor – Ambition trim. Priced at Rs. 15.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the AT variant costs a lakh more than the 6-speed MT version of the car.
The new DSG-powered Laura TSI guarantees better fuel efficiency than the manual Laura, a rare thing since automatic versions are known to guzzle more fuel and return less fuel efficiency in general. While the Laura MT claims an efficiency of 13.4kmpl (ARAI certified), the 7-speed DSG-Equipped Laura TSI offers an impressive mileage of 14.6kmpl, which is higher by 1.2 kmpl. The Laura Petrol AT is expected to be faster than the manual variant, thanks to its twin clutch gear box.
Although the interiors and other features remain unchanged, the 1.8 TSI AT gets additional 16-inch alloy wheels, which is missing on the manual petrol version.
