After the recent successful launch of the Vista D90, Tata Motors is now busy conceiving its new premium small hatchback that is slated to arrive by 2015. The new Tata hatch will rival the successful models of Hyundai, Ford and Maruti.
Called the ‘XO’, this hatch is likely to be built on the refurbished Indica platform and is being touted as the company’s biggest launch ever.
Talking about the platform, one of the company sources revealed, "A common man does not see the platform; he or she is attracted by the style, design and features. The new X0 intends to deliver just that with almost 75% change in body in white (body panels)." The final product including the design, cost and time is under discussion and will be possibly finalized by March 31. Under the hood, the new hatch is likely to get a 1.05-litre three-cylinder diesel engine and a 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor. There is also a likelihood of adding other higher capacity engines for more powerful options.
Close sources revealed that a new compact sedan and a compact SUV are also under discussion. "These products too should hit the market in the next few years, but the exact specification in terms of which platform the sedan and SUV will come on is still being discussed as Tata Motors has multiple compact car platforms (X0 and X1) on which it could build these products," revealed another company source.
