FIAT Group Automobiles India Private Limited (FGAIPL) launched its stockyard at Ranjangaon, Pune. The first state-of-the-art stockyard has been designed and constructed by FIAT’s logistics partner Mercurio Pallia. The stockyard covers an area of about 12 acres within he industrial premises of Ranjangaon and is near to FIAT’s manufacturing plant. At a given point of time, the stockyard can house 2,000 cars. The storage area is covered with concrete paver block that ensures that the cars are stored in exquisite condition. There is a separate loading area where the cars can be loaded into the car carrier trailers.
At the onset, the stockyard will cater to the incumbent Fiat Linea and Fiat Punto models. In due course of time it will store cars from the FIAT and the Chrysler group as and when they are introduced in the Indian market.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Enrico Atanasio, MD, FIAT Group Automobiles Pvt. Ltd, said,” The FIAT Group views India as a key strategic market and one which will soon be amongst the top 5 automobile markets in the world. The inauguration of the state of the art stockyard is in accordance with our expansion strategy for the Indian market. We are confident that India will be a driving force in terms of volumes for the group and therefore, the development of this stockyard in association with Mercurio Pallia, our logistics partner will enable us to bridge the demand-supply gap and put us in a strong position to achieve our objectives.
The stockyard has been developed adhering to the safety, security and environmental requirements of the FIAT group.
Robert DeCrick (Head-SCM, APAC FIAT Chrysler) added, “The development of this stockyard is in alignment with the Group’s strategy to replicate its’ global operational standards. Our objective here is to establish a modern, high quality distribution facility which will support our plan to provide a high level of service to our dealers and customers.
The facility has round the clock security supported with CCTV surveillance system for better safety of cars and people. The system has been designed with high mast lighting systems to avoid minimum interference in storage area and there by optimizing storage with utmost safety considerations.
In order to conduct quality checks to maintain global standards, the facility has state of the art PDI booth along with necessary tools and equipments to ensure cars getting dispatched are inspected for 100% quality before being loaded into the car carrier.
The stock yard also is equipped with proper storm water drainage system and water harvesting to keep the facility water neutral and help the environment. The facility boasts of an effluent treatment plant to avoid any effluents generated during washing to get into the soil directly.
