As the Indian auto industry hits a new low, thanks to the escalating fuel prices and lack of policy incentives, carmakers are busy doling out huge discounts to increase footfalls in the showrooms. And following suit is Maruti Suzuki India Limited, which has announced a huge discount on its best-selling hatch, the Swift, for the first time ever to push up its sales. Maruti is offering a corporate discount of Rs. 5000 on the diesel variant and has promised instant delivery too.
The Swift, Maruti’s biggest global success and top-selling car ever since its launch in June 2005, ended its discount-free run this month. A Maruti Suzuki BSE -0.82 % dealer said, "We are currently facing perhaps the toughest times in the past several years. The customer test-drives, rate of conversations of car bookings to retail sales all have declined in recent months. While waiting on all models has vanished, the lacklustre Budget has changed the swing even for models like Swift that have enjoyed huge waiting until last month."
Maruti has recognised more than 100 corporate like ABB, Canara Bank BSE -1.97 %, Jet Airways BSE 1.72 %, Larsen & Toubro, LIC, and Vodafone for cash rebates.
