TVS Motors, Indian two-wheeler maker, and BMW Motorrad, German scooter and motorcycle maker, collaborates to come up with a range of sub 500 cc motorcycles picking the likes of Honda, Bajaj Auto, KTM and other leading motorcycle makers across the world.
The TVS-BMW collaboration is going to build global products that will be sold via independent networks. The sub 500 cc motorcycles built by the collaboration of BMW and TVS brands will be sold under both TVS and BMW brands independently. These products will be available in India also.
The first vehicle from the stables of TVS-BMW collaboration will hit the roads in 2015 and both brands will sell the vehicle independently. BMW Motorrad and TVS Motors have signed a long-term cooperation for the joint venture of building sub 500 cc motorcycles. This partnership is expected to curtail the development costs and also allow BMW Motorrad to use high quality manufacturing bases of TVS Motors to build sub 500 cc motorcycles.
TVS Motors has not launched a stylish motorcycle since long due to which the motorcycle enthusiasts have shifted to brands as Honda, Bajaj and KTM. The new association with BMW Motorrad can imbue a dash of excitement into TVS products and help it to regain its status in this segment.
The two-wheeler segment is observing more and more alliances eg. Bajaj and Kawasaki had a long-term partnership and KTM and Bajaj have a manufacturing, development and distribution partnership. These collaborations help in building low cost-high quality products.
