The BMW Group declared the initiation of local production of its much hyped product ‘MINI Countryman’ at the domestic plant of BMW near Chennai in India. This is for the first time MINI Countryman would be produced outside Europe. The growing demand for premium MINI cars has encouraged the expansion of the worldwide production network.

The BMW Plant in Chennai will maintain the same quality standards while manufacturing the cars that are followed at the production plants of BMW Group models across the globe. The local plant will produce MINI Cooper D Countryman High (diesel) and MINI Cooper D Countryman (diesel).

India will get the Completely Built-up Units (CBU) of petrol trims of MINI Cooper S Countryman High, MINI Cooper S Countryman, MINI Cooper Convertible, MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S.

BMW Group established its presence in India in 2007 and in January 2012 MINI stepped into the domestic market. At present there are five exclusive outlets across major cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

The BMW plant in Chennai was inaugurated in March 2007 and spreads across an area of 40 acres in the Mahindra World City. The plant is equipped with highly skilled employees, state-of-the-art machine technology and enhanced manufacturing processes. MINI is the first premium small car that would be manufactured in India at its plant in Chennai. It expects enormous growth over the medium and long term.
