Toyota Motor Corporation recorded 2.5 percent higher sales in the U.S., for the month of May on strong demand for its luxury brand Lexus. Overall Toyota car sales were up by 4 percent whereas truck sales remained flat. Lexus sales were up by 29 percent to 12,422 units, led by ES mid-size sedan, which doubled to 5,890. However, Lexus utility sales dropped by 17 percent.
Here are few Toyota cars that performed well in May. The newly designed Toyota Avalon recorded quadrupled sales to 7,099 units; Scion FR-S too received higher growth with sales increased to 1,937 units from just 86 units last year. Lexus – ES and LS, sales were doubled, and Toyota Tacoma sales increased by 20 percent. Toyota Camry, a mid-size sedan fell less than 1 percent to 39,216 units in May.
