With impressive sales figure of Amaze’s diesel variant, Honda has planned to release few more diesel models in the near future. Though, auto consumers are not likely to see diesel versions of Honda City and Honda Civic. Amaze’s diesel variant alone contributed around 80 percent of the total sales of the sedan, launched in April. The auto maker is trying to speed up its production line with increased waiting period for the Amaze sedan.
Honda’s upcoming diesel models are likely to be - the next-generation Jazz, a 7-seater MUV, a compact SUV and a new City (to be launched by 2015). In recent times, there has been growing demand for diesel cars owing to high fuel prices in India. With the launch of new diesel models, Honda plans to grab major share in the Indian auto industry. The auto major plans to expand its operating field up to 50 percent in the coming years. Last year, Honda sold 73,500 units in India. Keeping up with its expansion plans, the company is setting up a car assembly line at Tapukara, in Rajasthan.
