Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz launched the diesel variant of its compact hatch B-Class at a price tag of Rs. 22.30 lakh. The B-Class petrol variant already sold 500 units since its launch 9 months back. With the launch of the diesel variant Mercedes is hopeful to outsell its petrol variant in the coming months.
Eberhard Kern, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said: "In our portfolio where diesel variant is available, it constitutes 80% of our total sales with petrol making up for 20% with the B-Class too we are expecting the same. The launch of B-Class Diesel is a continuation of Mercedes-Benz India's product offense for 2013. The response for the B-Class petrol has been encouraging and we are confident that the new B-Class diesel will add to the demand of the car, with its new improved efficient engine, stylish characteristics and unique touring capabilities."
The diesel B-Class is powered by 2.2L 4-cylinder engine which generates 250 Nm of torque @ 1400-2800 rpm. The hatchback is expected to deliver mileage of 18.98 kmpl and reach top-speed of 190 km/l. The new B-Class is available in single variant only. The diesel B-Class brings the best qualities of both SUV and a sedan. Featuring Intelligent Assistance Systems, CD Player, Audio 20 CD Infotainment System with dual tuner, Aux-in socket and USB interface, the four-wheeler is packed with attractive tech features. Mercedes cars in India have received tremendous response from Indian customers for its compact cars - A-Class and B-Class, in the last few months.
