General Motors India is looking into all options to recall diesel variants of Sail sedan and Sail U-VA hatchback to rectify quality issue and emission related problem. The auto maker is coping with recent recall of MPV Tavera. P Balendran, vice president corporate affairs at GM India said: "We have not arrived at any decision yet to recall the Sail, but are looking at all options."
The Sail sedan and hatchback models have faced certain quality and technical issues, which have made the car maker stop manufacturing the two cars since 5th June. The auto maker has said to have found solution for the issues and is likely to start manufacturing Sail diesel within 15 days. So far customers have not complaint about the cars.
Following the recall of Tavera multi-utility vehicle, the auto maker has fired 25 employees including CFO Anil Mehrotra, director, GM India Engineering vice-president Lavern Sula and Sheila Sarver. Sail recall is likely to be much smaller in comparison to the diesel variant of Sail hatch. GM India is probing the role of some of its staffers in critical areas such as quality, engineering, compliance and production in the quality issues.
