Skoda is getting ready to bring out third generation Octavia on Indian roads in August. The car was initially displayed at Skoda museum in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic, in December 2012. This car is designed by Jozef Kaban and it is much bigger, spacious and has some new equipment compared to previous generation.
Skoda India had rolled out second generation Octavia with the name Laura, back in 2005. This car was sold side-by-side with the previous generation Octavia. Skoda stopped selling first generation Octavia in India in 2010. With plans of bringing back brand Octavia through the third generation model, the auto marque will be challenging premium sedans in Indian market. The car, which is expected to be unveiled in India during August, 2013, will be positioned above Laura in the Skoda portfolio.
The cabin of the new vehicle provides enough legroom and headroom to passengers and since it has a longer wheelbase, the interior is naturally more spacious compared to older models. To make the car more efficient, designers have used high-strength steel for building basic structure, which reduces weight of the vehicle to considerable extent. Equipment like automatic high beam headlamps and automatic lane guidance system and some high-end safety features are all part of the package. All these features will position the car against premium sedans like Volkswagen Jetta and Hyundai Neo Fluidic Elantra.
