The German auto major, BMW, has started production of its third generation X5. This Sports Activity Vehicle has three refined engines and features distinguishable design characteristics compared to its predecessor. The first X5 which rolled out was a Mineral White coloured M50d model which has a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology.
Mr. Josef Kerscher, BMW Manufacturing President said, “Since 1999, the X5 has been a significant contributor to the Spartanburg plant’s global success. Our team will continue to build the next-generation X5 with the superior quality that our customers around the world have come to expect from South Carolina.”
The third generation BMW X5 comes out with three engine options. A V8 petrol motor capable of delivering 450 bhp, 6-cylinder in-line diesel engine and M Performance diesel motor with tri-turbo technology which generates 381 bhp are all in the options list for this car. Engineers have worked on reducing weight of the car to increase fuel economy. Eight-speed automatic gearbox, standard fit on all models, is designed for higher efficiency and better performance. BMW will be adding few more engines to options list during December 2013, along with the ones mentioned above. India will get the new generation X5 next year.
