BMW is likely to launch its new entry level model – the 1-Series, on 3rd September in India. The BMW 1-Series will be available in both diesel and petrol variants which will deliver higher performance on the move. The diesel motor will be powered by 1997 cc engine which is likely to produce 143 bhp of power @ 320 Nm of torque. The 1.6L turbocharged direct injection hi-tech petrol engine is likely to generate 136 bhp of maximum power and 220 Nm of torque. The BMW 1-Series petrol engine is also used in the Cooper S and Mini Cooper models. The German auto major has tweaked the suspension of the hatch keeping in mind the Indian roads. The diesel and petrol engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox which will no doubt be a boon for the driver.
Featuring a sporty looking exterior the BMW 1-Series carries its brand DNA. The 1-Series features BMW iDrive Multimedia System, 50:50 weight distribution and a rear-wheel drive layout. With BMW's upcoming 1-Series, the hatchback segment will offer wider range of choices for auto consumers in India. Expected to be assembled locally at its Chennai facility, the new entry level BMW model may be priced between Rs. 20 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh. When launched it will compete against major rival Mercedes A-Class and also to some extent the Volvo V40 Cross Country.
