German owned Czech car firm Skoda has begun production of the latest version of its popular compact SUV, the Yeti. The car has begun rolling off the production lines at Skoda’s facility at Kvasiny in the Czech Republic aimed at a market launch in January of next year. An Indian launch can also be expected in the near future and it will be the next big release by Skoda after their brilliant new sedan, the Octavia.
The Yeti will be available as two models – the regular Skoda Yeti for day-to-day city driving and the Skoda Yeti Outdoor for driving on rougher locales. Both these variants get redesigned exteriors, revamped interiors and new features. The face-lifted Yeti was shown to world during the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and it will be produced alongside the new Skoda Superb and Skoda Roomster.
The Yeti and Yeti Outdoor are mechanically identical, both being powered by a selection of 7 engine options (3 petrol and 4 diesel engines) and 3 transmission options (1 manual and 2 automatics). But on the outside, the Yeti Outdoor ticks all the ruggedness boxes by having skid plates, bumpers and side mouldings with plastic inserts and under-body guards. The regular Yeti, on the other hand, will have body-coloured skid plates, bumpers and side mouldings.
The Skoda Yeti was already well on its way to becoming one of the most successful cars in its segment, having sold over 2,88,700 units so far. This update will ensure that this striking compact SUV will continue to thrive.
