Hot on the heels of BMW’s new Z4 launch is another German automotive superpower – it has just been made official that Mercedes-Benz will roll out a new version of their new roadster, the SLK class. And best of all, it’s going to be the SLK55 AMG!
Mercedes has confirmed that the new car will be launched in India on the 2nd of December and that this will be their last release for this year. The SLK55 AMG has a 5.5 litre V8 engine that’s naturally aspirated and delivers 421 bhp.
The transmission is a 7 speed AMG Speedshift 7G-tronic automatic gearbox with 3 driving modes – Sport, Manual and Controlled Efficiency. Acceleration from 0-100 kph is dealt with in 4.6 seconds and the car maxes out at an electronically limited speed of 250 kph.
In spite of such brawny performance, this new SLK55 AMG is 30% kinder to the environment because of integrating a start-stop and clever cylinder management that shuts off two cylinders of the V8 when not driving aggressively to save fuel.
The SLK55 comes fitted with 18” AMG alloy wheels, front and rear aprons, side skirting to distinguish it from the standard SLK. The interior gets bespoke AMG Nappa leather upholstery.
Mercedes Benz might just have the means to kill off BMW’s dreams, it depends fully on into what price bracket Merc slots its roadster in.
