Toyota to Re-launch Harrier Crossover in Japan, Will Be Based On Lexus RX

By   |   15 November,2013

Toyota, the world-renowned car firm from the Land of the Rising Sun, will be resurrecting the Harrier name with a crossover based on the Lexus RX SUV.

Several parallels have been drawn between this new crossover and the Lexus RX. The Toyota Harrier will get a new interior, a new grille with the Harrier badge displayed on it and reshaped bumpers at both ends. Also, the front and the rear of the car will also be overhauled, along with the headlamp and tail lamp clusters.

In terms of power, the Harrier will have 2 engines and together with a hybrid twinned to a 2.5 litre engine, the combined output will be 194 bhp. This engine reportedly returns an average fuel economy of 21.8 kpl. The petrol-only engine will be a 2.0 litre Valvematic motor with 149 bhp available on tap. It should be noted that the petrol-only variant is available with either 2 wheel drive (which also come equipped with a start-stop system to improve efficiency) or 4 wheel drive and the hybrid variant can be bought only with 4WD.

The petrol-only version of the Harrier will be put on sale on December 2nd, 2013 at prices beginning from US$ 27,330 for the base model with the 2.0 litre engine and 2 wheel drive. The hybrid version will go on sale only on January 15th of next year.
