Audi has just officially confirmed the development of the Q1 SUV and production will start in 2016. “The Audi Q1 is part of our broad-based SUV strategy. It is designed on the basis of the modular transverse engine concept and will round off our Q series at the bottom end,” stated Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG.
The Q1 as the the name suggests is going to be the smallest member of the Audi Q family and will slot below the Audi Q3. Audi has not revealed much about this new SUV other than showing this concept sketch. While the sketch reveals little in terms of the look as it is overly futuristic in a typical concept way, the design will be muscular and of course very Audi.
The compact crossover is a big hit all over the world and thus the Q1 fits in nicely in the Audi line-up. By 2020, the automaker will expand its product range from the current 49 to more than 60 models. In India the Audi Q series of SUV's have been a big hit with the Q5, Q3 and Q7 doing well plus in a few years time with the Q1, it will be even better.
