Yesterday at the new Mercedes SLK55 AMG launch the talk also centered around the new S-Class and MotorTrend India has learned that this new model has already attracted a sizeable number of bookings. Most likely Mercedes will unveil it in india this month, ending of what has been a roller coaster year for Mercedes.
Mercedes will at first launch the S-Class in a limited edition model only with the petrol V8. The S500 launch edition just like the new Mercedes E-Class, Mercedes GL will be a limited run and most likely will be sold out considering the demand.
The S500 has a V8 biturbo petrol engine making 455 bhp which is more than the earlier S-Class V8. Performance is as you would expect with zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The new S-Class will have the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission with DIRECT SELECT lever as standard. Coming back to the engines in June next year the S350 diesel will join the line-up which needless to say will form the bulk of the new S-Class sales.
Now cars like these are for people who sit at the back so rear seat space is important and thus for the first time the development focus was on the long-wheelbase Saloon. There are two wheelbase versions but we will get the long wheelbase one only which has more space at the back. At 5248 millimetres it has more space at the back with more headroom/shoulder room and legroom.
Of course the new S-Class is all about luxury and technology and this time Mercedes has gone to great lengths to make it the best car in the world and increase the distance from its rivals. There is a lot to take in with the new S-Class. For example the new S-Class is the first vehicle in the world to do without a single light bulb as standard as it has almost 500 LEDs.
There are two high-resolution TFT colour displays in 8:3 format with a screen diagonal of 30.7 cm (12.3 inches) which form the new information centre in the S-Class, a perfume atomisation system plus it even has electric heating of the armrests!
It even has eyes with the road surface scan as it scans the road up to 15 metres ahead of the vehicle. There is a lot more and I could go on and on which shows how good the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is.
