The Cayenne SUV from Porsche is the company’s best-selling model by far because it takes supercar performance and adds in a lot of common sense and practicality. Porsche has just released a special version of the car called the Platinum Edition and you might be forgiven for thinking that it’s much ado about nothing.
But this car has been endowed with more bells and whistles than the regular Porsche Cayenne. Standard features include a Tiptronic S automatic transmission, privacy glazing for the rear windows, Park Assist for the front and rear of the car, 19 inch Cayenne Design II alloys and power steering plus. This special edition Cayenne gets only the V6s to drive it. Choices are either a 300 bhp petrol engine or a 245 bhp diesel. Expect fuel consumption figures of around 10 kpl for the petrol powered Cayenne and 13.88 kpl for its oil burner brother.
The interior will receive the two tone treatment of black and Luxor beige. As usual, the head rests feature an embossed Porsche crest and the door sills have Platinum Edition markers on them. Since this is a Cayenne, paddle shifters are provided behind the steering wheel for the sort of person who likes to take charge while driving. The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system that features a 7 inch screen for navigation and entertainment purposes also comes as standard with this car. And speaking of entertainment, the audio system channels out sound through 11 speakers!
Also, the Cayenne Platinum Edition gets its air intakes, bumpers, rear spoiler border and side window surrounds finished in a shade that Porsche calls Platinum Silver Metallic. The exterior paint scheme can be either one of the standard colours or can be selected from the optional Meteor Grey, Basalt Black, Mahogany metallic or Carrara White. Orders for this SUV are open and deliveries are expected to begin early next year.
