The new Ford Ka concept was revealed in Brazil sometime back and a few days back it had its European unveil at an event in Barcelona, Spain. The five-door concept was revealed in Europe by Stephen Odell, Ford executive vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Ford has sold more than 1.8 million Ka cars since the vehicle was first launched in 1996 and it was a design icon of sorts. Ford projects that worldwide the small car segment will increase by 35 per cent from 4 million units in 2012 to 6.2 million units by 2017. In India the production version will be the new Ford Figo or positioned above it.
Design wise it is a really good looking car with sharp headlamps and an Aston grille which lends it immense presence. The design is more curvy and more bold overall. The Ka hatchback concept is also loaded with features and with the success of the Ford EcoSport, Ford has learnt that more features is a key point for the success of a car.
There is MyFord Dock which enables occupants to store, mount and charge mobile devices such as phones and satellite navigation systems, SYNC with Voice Control and AppLink enables drivers to activate apps, play music and make phone calls- all this while keeping both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
Ford India can launch this as a premium hatch above the Figo which is a common practise in our markets.
