For starters let us tell you it is even better looking in the flesh, yup we are talking about the new Ford Mustang. When 9 million-plus cars have sold over 50 years, it is a tough job to make a successor that will please the purist and bring in new fans. The new Mustang does that brilliantly and has taken this icon to a whole new level.
2015 Ford Mustang Looks
For starters it has a lower, wider stance with a reduction in roof height, and wider rear fenders, track plus a fastback profile which looks terrific with the steeply sloped windshield and rear glass. At the front the look is sleeker and it seems that it has been to the gym and back. Mind you it is not as if the earlier Mustang lacked muscle...
There is the signature shark-bite front fascia and trapezoidal grille and at the rear you get the three-dimensional, tri-bar tail-lamps. The convertible version has a classic multilayer insulated cloth top which now lowers faster than before.
2015 Ford Mustang Interior
Inside the new Mustang retains the classic touches but with a splash of modernity. The fit and finish is fanstastic and the sense of occassion is very much there. Space has been improved too! There is a whole lot of tech here from Intelligent Access with push-button start to SYNC and MyKey plus available Track Apps, MyColor gauges and new Shaker Pro audio system.
2015 Ford Mustang Engines
This is what matters and here the news is good. For starters there is an upgraded V6 and an all-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. The Mustang EcoBoost engine uses direct injection, variable cam timing and turbocharging making 305 bhp. Nice, but for me it has to have a V8 and in this case it is a 420 bhp 5.0-liter V8 which now gets an upgraded valvetrain and cylinder heads. The manual gearbox has been given an update and the automatic now has steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.
The new Mustang features all-new front and rear suspension systems. At the front, a new perimeter subframe and at the rear is an all-new integral-link independent rear suspension. This makes it the most nimble pony car ever.
2015 Ford Mustang India Launch
For the first time ever, Ford will bring the Mustang in markets of Europe and Asia. It is still not clear whether the new Mustang will come to India though with the RHD version, there no reason not to. As a brand the Mustang enjoys immense aspirational value and Ford could bring it in limited numbers. The pricing is also unclear though it would be around Rs 50 lakh plus which you might agree is cheaper than many sports cars now available in India. So lets keep our fingers crossed on this one...
