The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-class will land on Indian shores on the 8th of January next year. The German car giant will launch only the S550 variant at first and pre-bookings for this new luxo barge, at Rs. 25 lakhs each, are already underway.
The new S550 will be powered by a massive 4.7 litre, bi-turbo V8 that belts out 449 hp and 700 Nm of torque. This enables the car to do a 0-100 kph dash in just 4.8 seconds and go all the way to an electronically limited top speed of 250 kph. The car will be manufactured at Mercedes-Benz’s production facility at Sindelfingen in Germany and imported into India as a CBU.
But the highest selling variant of the S class will be the S350 BlueTec diesel version and this variant will go on sale in India sometime during mid-2014. Once this version reaches the dealerships, the S class might begin to be produced within the country at the Mercedes-Benz plant outside Pune, Maharashtra; thereby lowering costs. Keep your eyes peeled as we will continue to provide information about the Mercedes-Benz S class launch as and when it happens.
