South Korean automotive firm Hyundai has well and truly got a solid foothold in the country and they are now looking to widen their product line up in the country. The company has released or is on the verge of releasing new models like the immensely popular Grand i10, striking looking Hyundai Santa Fe and quite probably by the year end, the Hyundai Veloster.
The Veloster is a compact sports car aimed at the youth and it gets its name, as you might have guessed, from combining the words velocity and roadster. This car is the replacement of the older Hyundai Tiburon sports car and features many interesting design traits like an asymmetrical door configuration. This basically means that the driver's side of the car has a single, huge door and the passenger side has two regular-sized doors! Abroad, the car is powered by 2 versions of a 1.6 litre petrol engine - one producing 128 hp and the other producing 138 hp. There are two other more powerful, turbocharged versions of this engine as well - delivering 183 hp and 201 hp. All these engines can be mated to either a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed automatic gearbox.
Hyundai has tasted far better success than companies like Maruti Suzuki when it comes to selling cars across a wide price gamut and this fact will definitely help should the company decide to bring the Veloster into India. Hyundai is remaining tight lipped about details regarding the Veloster, including the price it could be pegged at. The car has already been displayed in India once previously, during the 2012 Indian Auto Expo and hopefully, this year it might be here for good.
