German automotive mammoth Volkswagen has a vehicle that, once launched, will give the highly popular Ford EcoSport a huge scare. It’s called the Volkswagen Taigun and it is VW’s new sub 4 metre compact SUV. The company will not be launching this car in the country immediately but Indians will get a chance to see it in the flesh since it will be shown at the Delhi Auto Expo next month.
The Taigun has been designed with typical German sensibility but at the same time, it sure does look butch. Straight lines and clean cuts are teamed with hugely flared wheel arches and a chiselled body to give the car a neat look and a tough stance at the same time.
The concept vehicle had a 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that put out 108 bhp. We expect the car in India to have this and a newly developed 1.4 litre diesel motor as engine options once it is released here.
The interiors of the Taigun continue the simplistic theme. All the control interfaces are designed with ease of use in mind and have minimal fuss. Indians recently have warmed up to SUVs and hence, it is doubtless that the Taigun will sell brilliantly well if VW gets the pricing spot on.
