Auto Expo 2014- Tata Bolt Hatchback First Look Review

By   |   03 February,2014

Today was a big day for Tata Motors as it unveiled two of its new products namely the Tata Bolt hatch and Zest Compact Sedan. Now let us dig deep into these two new cars and first let us start with the Bolt. The Tata Bolt is a premium hatch that will be launched in the second half of 2014 and features the new look design language and lots more. This will be on display at the Auto Expo 2014. Read on.

Tata Bolt exterior styling

The Tata Bolt and Zest are based on the current platform and will co-exist with the Vista/Manza but as you can see everything is new and better looking. The looks of the Bolt at the first instance resembles the Vista somewhat but on getting closer its a much better sight than that. Tata Motors say that the Bolt has beendesigned and developed based on three key fundamental principles, namely, DesigNext, DriveNext, ConnectNext. At the front there is the new Tata signature grille which lends the car lots of presence.

The headlamps, fog lamp design and front bumpers are changed as well. The Bolt also has a floating roof spoiler. From the side it looks a bit like the Vista but the rear is completely new with sporty styling. The 15 inch alloys also add to the looks.

Tata Bolt Interior, space

This is where things are new and much better than the Vista. The dash design, quality and overall feel is more premium than before and a bigger leap than the exteriors. The three spoke stering, dash and various controls are well done. The instrument cluster and the central AC vents are connected in a single wing-shaped graphics.

When it comes to features there is the all-new HARMAN infotainment system, Bluetooth, smart voice recognition, smartphone integration, supporting phone enabled navigation, social media integration, touch phone controlled interface. The space has always been a Vista/Manza strong point and it continues here as rear seat space is good for three and there is enough legroom.

Tata Bolt Revotron Engine

The Tata Bolt is powered by the Turbocharged Intercooled Multi-point Fuel-Injected (MPFi) Petrol Engine, REVOTRON 1.2T with 85 bhp and 140 Nm of torque. The Bolt also get a new electronic power assisted steering. Tata Motors is betting big on this engine and with petrols now making a comeback this is crucial. There is also the 1.3 diesel with 73 bhp.

Tata Bolt Price

As said Tata has not revealed this bit and other figures yet as it will do so at the time of the launch but we expect this to cannibalise the Vista and provide stiff competition to the other hatches. Tata Motors has been going through troubled times and also despite the death of their MD just days before the launch, the Bolt will rise above all the other talk and its an exciting fresh product that is appealing.
