We’re at the 12th Indian Auto Expo where Maruti Suzuki has just pulled the covers off its latest mid size sedan, the Ciaz. The company intends to replace its aging SX4 sedan with this all new vehicle and that can only be a good thing.
The SX4, despite being extremely capable and very well rounded, never managed to take off in sales and Maruti Suzuki hopes to fix all that with the Ciaz. Compared to the old Maruti Suzuki SX4, which was rather dull on the styling front, the new Ciaz is totally different. Lashings of chrome at the front, LED headlight clusters, raked back windshield, stunning alloys and more contribute to this car looking very space age indeed and this should be a big hit with potential buyers who always wanted the reliability and service backup of Maruti Suzuki, but were put off by the design.
The Ciaz is built on the Maruti Ertiga’s platform and gets a 1.4 litre petrol and a 1.3 litre diesel engine. This new sedan will also have the option of a manual and an automatic transmission.
At the Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki also revealed the S Cross, an entry from the company for the crossover segment. The car displayed was the European version of the car, which achieved an impressive 5 stars on the Euro NCAP safety tests and comes equipped with 4 wheel drive.
The S cross also gets features like roo rails, skid plates, flared wheel arches and so on and the car can be specified in one among 10 paint schemes. Engine options are either a 1.6 petrol or a 1.6 diesel engine that can be connected to either a 5 speed manual or a 6 speed manual and possibly, a CVT automatic as well.
