Auto Expo 2014-Honda Jazz Unveiled in India

By Nitesh Sharma   |   05 February,2014

Honda has unveiled their one of the most anticipated cars, Jazz for our market at the Auto Expo 2014. Internationally known as Fit, the car is in its third generation and is quite popular worldwide including India. The extremely high pricing became the solely reason for Honda to stop producing this car India but with this new car, Honda has tried to come up with a solution.

The new gen Jazz will be locally produced as it shares its platform with the newly launched City. This is a strategic move from Honda in order to keep the prices under control and to make Jazz more affordable than before.

The new Jazz looks like the evolved version of its previous generation and with its short nose and MPV like proportions, it looks distinctive than other premium hatchbacks in India. The sloping roof-line, noticeable body lines and 15inches alloy wheels gives it an aerodynamic look. The restyling continues at the back also as you will notice an edgy rear bumper with clear lens tail lights. The new Jazz comes with vertically extended tail lights which are integrated in its B-pillar and looks quite sporty with full width chrome bar and spoiler on its boot gate.Honda has tweaked the interiors as well however there is no compromise made in terms of interior space.

The amazing packaging of Honda makes Jazz a very spacious car indeed and it feels like any proper three box sedan offering good amount of leg, head and shoulder room. Jazz will be equipped with two different engines; one each of petrol and diesel. It shares these both engines with Amaze. The 1.2L, four-cylinder, DOHC petrol engine is capable of producing a power output of 87bhp@6000rpm with an utmost torque output of 110Nm arriving at 4600rpm.

The diesel engine will be the 1.5L i-DTEC,4-cylinder DOHC engine which churns out a power and torque output of 98bhp and 200Nm. This same engine is also doing duty on the recently launched, City. However, it will be interesting to see how Honda tunes this engine as there are lots of expectations from the diesel version of Jazz. If this time, Honda manages to price Jazz competitively in our market then looking at its new avatar with a diesel engine, we hope Jazz will prove to be big threat for the segment leaders, Maruti Swift and Hyundai i20 and it will surely be able to find more buyers in our market than before.
