The BMW 3 Series GT has been launched in India at the Auto Expo. The 3 Series GT is basically a 3 Series with more space and practicality- ideal for our market. The new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is 200 millimetres longer in total than the BMW 3 Series Touring (Estate version) and comes with a 110-millimetre longer wheelbase and stands 81 millimetres taller.
The biggest advantage of that is the increase in space at the rear where 70 millimetres of additional legroom is there over the sedan. Of course the boot capacity is also increased to 520 litres. This car will be available only with a diesel engine. Other practical bits include 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat bench with folding head restraints and tilt-adjustable backrests, and the two-piece parcel shelf. The design is quite different from the 3 Series sedan with a more mature look and BMW has done a clever job with the styling hiding the visual bulk.
The 2.0-litre diesel engine along with the eight-speed automatic gearbox provide a superb combo. All in all this is a BMW that makes sense for those prefer to be driven rather than drive themselves. The car is priced at Rs. 42.75 lakhs.
