Now the Ford EcoSport is having the party all to itself in the compact SUV segment and Volkswagen now wants in. This is how they will do it with the Taigun SUV concept. Yes the name reads concept but we will have a production version in one or two years so this is a very important unveil for them as this one is in near production form and tuned for our tastes.
First shown at the 2012 Sao Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil, the Taigun is a sure-shot winner for VW. The chunky styling dominated by horizontal design details looks rugged and appealing. The concept has roof rails with integrated LED spotlights which look cool. The big change you see here is the spare wheel at the back which is a neat SUV touch and has been added for markets like ours which prefer them.
The Volkswagen Taigun comes with 17-inch alloy wheels and size 205/50 R17 tyres and is 3,859 mm long. Inside the Taigun has a funky but a typically well thought out VW interior. The concept has a 1.0-litre TSI engine with 110 bhp but expect a diesel as well when it comes to India.
Pricing is key and the production version of this SUV will have an aggressive price-tag in the region of the Nissan Terrano and Ford EcoSport. Volkswagen India needs products like these and going by the response to this, they should get it here as fast and possible.
