Maruti Suzuki launching a new hatchback has always been really big news and this time around as well, it’s the same story. The vehicle in question is known as the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and it is based on the Suzuki Wind concept. The design has been watered down quite a bit and the vehicle looks basic but decent in the flesh, as we have reported in our Maruti Suzuki Celerio test drive.
Under the bonnet is a 3 cylinder petrol engine that generates 68 bhp that sounds a little on the harsher side but does the job of city commuting very well. However, what everyone is talking about is the new automated manual gearbox Maruti Suzuki has equipped this car with. Driving this car therefore will be a very effortless affair since there isn’t a clutch pedal or changing gears with your hand to bother with. For people who insist on manuals, Maruti does offer this car with a manual transmission as well.
In spite of being an automatic, the Celerio returns an astonishing fuel economy figure of 23.1 kpl which will get potential customers to seriously think about ditching manual gearboxes forever! The ride quality is good for a car of its class too. The car will come in the usual Maruti Suzuki trim levels of LXi, VXi and ZXi, each having progressively better levels of features.
Prices of the Celerio are:
LXi - INR 3.90 lakhs
VXi - INR 4.20 lakhs
ZXi - INR 4.50 lakhs
LXi auto - INR 4.29 lakhs
VXi auto - INR 4.59 lakhs
