Hyundai has finally launched the new generation of their much awaited SUV, Santa Fe at the Auto Expo 2014. The SUV aims to dent the market space of the segment leader Toyota Fortuner while it will also become a threat to other SUV’s in its segment such as SsangYong Rexton.
In this article, we put all three SUV’s against each other and will try to conclude which one is the complete value for money. First, we talk about the newest entry in the slot the Hyundai Santa Fe which is also the most expensive SUV in its segment with price bracket ranging from INR 26.3 to 29.25 lakhs for its 4x4 AT variant (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
Similar to other Hyundai cars, Santa Fe is also the most feature equipped car in its segment. The car is stuffed with features like satellite navigation, 12-way adjustable driver seat, push button start, cruise control, rear parking camera with sensors, dual zone automatic climate control and a music system with 6 speakers and 4.3 inch touch screen display.
The list doesn’t end here only, new age Santa Fe also has ‘Flex Steer’ with three different modes, Comfort, Normal and Sport altering the weight of steering wheel as per your preference. List of safety features in Santa Fe includes traction control, ABS with EBD and 6 airbags which ensures your safety.
Keeping the pricing in mind, it’s the Toyota Fortuner which lags behind in the race. Even after paying INR 24 lakhs for its Automatic version what you get on the name of safety features is only 2-airbags and ABS. The highly popular SUV even lacks the basic features like auto folding mirrors and navigation system. However, it comes with comfort features like dual zone automatic climate control system, rear parking camera, audio player with Bluetooth connectivity, six-way power adjustable driver’s seat with cruise control only available in AT version.
While Santa Fe is on the costlier side and Fortuner lacking the basic features, it’s the SsangYong Rexton which comes as a surprise in the bucket filled with optimum safety and comfort features.
The RX5 and RX7 AT variants of Rexton are priced at INR 19.40 and 21.69 lakhs respectively and the RX7 variant is equipped with safety features like 4-airbags, ABS with EBD and traction control system. Rexton also offers you Bluetooth telephony, cruise control, reversing camera and satellite-navigation with touchscreen display.
Undoubtedly, it’s Hyundai Santa Fe which clearly tops the segment with its never ending list of features. Hyundai has made sure that they give every possible comfort and additional feature in their car to justify its high pricing.
But, it’s still more expensive than the rest of the cars by a good margin including Toyota Fortuner which also lacks some safety and comfort features. That leaves us to SsangYong Rexton which gives good value but the Hyundai strikes back with the sharper design and its good driving manners. The new Santa Fe is expensive but worth it.
