GM Announces New 1.0 Litre Engine to Rival Ford———s EcoBoost

By   |   19 February,2014

With the thumping success of the Ford EcoSport and its superb, award winning 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine, it was inevitable that sooner or later, other manufacturers would jump onto the bandwagon and produce small but powerful and fuel efficient engines as well.

As expected, General Motors has announced that they are working on a new, all aluminium, 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine that can deliver either 89 bhp or 113.5 bhp. This new engine will become a part of GM’s EcoTec range of engines and it will have its debut at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show. To make it even greener, this new engine will have features such as start-stop, a low pressure turbocharger, variable valve timing, a counterbalance shaft to suppress vibrations, cylinder head integrated exhaust manifold and a switchable water pump.
