Finally, Toyota has displayed the rugged and sporty version of Etios Liva namely; Etios Cross at the Auto Expo 2014 which is soon to be launched in India this year. The car will be sold along Etios sedan and Liva hatchback. Etios Cross is a straight competition to cars like Volkswagen Cross Polo and earlier sold Skoda Fabia Scout.
The new Toyota Etios Cross is based on the same platform of Live but its 120mm longer, 40mm wider and 45mm taller than the standard Liva. Few styling elements like roof rails, black colored side body cladding all around the car and silver finished side skid plate differentiates this car from the regular version and add rough look to this car. Its new 10-spoke 15-inches alloy wheels give dynamic look to this car when seen from either side.
The silver appearance on its front bumper chin, round fog lamps surrounded area integrated with side indicators and front guard visually adds freshness to the bland designing of the Liva. The newly added spoiler and Etios Cross badging at the back also makes it look appealing.
From inside, the car gets the new black colored interiors of the new Etios range and features the sporty fabric seats engraved with Etios Cross badging. As per company, the top variant is likely to feature an integrated 2-Din music system with speakers, Aux, USB and Bluetooth connectivity with steering mounted controls. As far as safety is concerned the car will be equipped with dual front airbags, rear wiper with defogger and ABS with EBD.
Similar to its siblings, Etios Cross will also be equipped with three different engines out of which two will be petrol engines. The car will share the 1.2L petrol engine with Liva which is good for 79bhp while it will also feature the 1.4L diesel unit which produces 68 bhp and performs best at low rpms. The powerful 1.5L petrol engine from Etios sedan will also be seen doing duty on this car but it will be only available on the top trims.
Toyota dealers have already started the booking of this car with a booking amount of 50K meanwhile it will be interesting to see how Toyota positions Etios Cross as they will intend to sell this car along the equally powerful TRD Sportivo version of their Liva hatch in our market.
