At the Geneva motor show 2014, BMW has displayed their newest model in the portfolio, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer which will take on cars like Mercedes B-class. This new age compact car has been designed with BMW’s brilliance to adapt the urban lifestyle and promises to deliver the best with its sharp and dynamic styling, compact dimensions and responsive range of engines.

The car features newly trademark Kidney style front grille of BMW with twin set of headlights. The short front and rear overhangs along with 16 and 17inches alloy wheel adds sporty character to this new BMW Tourer. This car also becomes the first BMW to feature engine at its front as it’s a front wheel drive car which suits its new age chassis and design the best.

To maximize the performance of its new age engines, BMW has opted for this drive layout. 2 Series Active Tourer will be available with three different engines out of which two are four cylinder engines, one each of petrol and diesel while its also available with a new three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

This 3-cylinder, 1.5L petrol engine churns out a power output of 136bhp and offers instant throttle response. The BMW 225i features a 2.0L petrol engine with a power output of 231bhp which helps this car to reach a top speed of 235km/hr with 0-100km/hr coming in just 6.8seconds.

The only diesel unit in 218d is a four cylinder, 2.0L engine which generates a maximum power and torque output of 150bhp and 330Nm respectively. The car does 0-100km/hr in8.9 seconds which makes it almost half a second quicker than the 3-cylinder petrol engine. It can reach a top speed of 205km/hr.

6-speed manual transmission comes as standard in 2-Series Active as it helps these engines to perform the best due to its compatibility with the new front wheel layout. However, the 3-cylinder petrol and 4-cylinder engines are also available with optional 6-speed and 8-speed Steptronic transmissions respectively.

Apart from the technical qualities, BMW has also made sure that there is enough space and comfort for passengers inside this car. With a wheelbase of 2670mm, it offers best legroom in its class which is achieved by reducing the front and rear overhangs. Apart from all the basic and premium comfort features, 2-Series active comes with BMW Connected Drive which collectively has many advanced safety and comfort features.

It’s surely a promising car from BMW which aims to attract the urban buyers with its functionality and practicality. We hope BMW soon make plans to bring this car to India.
