We are at the launch of the hugely awaited Datsun Go hatchback, the small car that heralds the rebirth of the old Japanese automotive brand Datsun after decades. We already have details that show that this little car is immensely capable of giving its competition a run for its money.
The Datsun Go will have features such as follow-me-home headlamps, air conditioning, electric windows at the front, speed sensitive power steering, a 12 volt socket for charging your electronic devices, digital tachometer, central locking, a distance to fuel empty readout and so on. The car will be available in a choice of 4 colours - Sky, White, Silver and Ruby.
Instead of going for a conventional audio system, the engineers at Datsun have been very clever in providing a mobile phone docking station with aux-in and USB support so that you can play whatever songs that you like straight from your cellphone. The Go also gets a 2 years/unlimited kilometres warranty scheme. Buyers can also opt for an extended 2 years/unlimited kilometres warranty as well.
Another known fact is that under the bonnet, there will be a 1.2 litre petrol engine that develops a power output 67 bhp. This is a peppy little engine that more than suffices for city commutes and daily drives and yet manages to return a mileage of 20.6 kpl as we found out from our Datsun Go test drive. This is also the first launch of a new Datsun vehicle in recent years and the fact that it is happening in India is quite special.
