Tata motors soon will launch the Zest in India as website for the new compact is up and running. Displayed first at the Auto Expo 2014, Zest is their latest offering in this segment after Indigo eCS. The company is betting big on this car to change its fortune in India. It’s based on the same platform of Vista but uses sophisticated technology and advanced features.
The new and aggressive exterior designing of Zest is certainly a step ahead from Tata and the addition of premium features like day time running LED lights, projector headlights and 16 inches alloy wheels further adds to the visual appeal of this car.
The short boot integration of Zest seems perfect and with stretched tail lamps, the car certainly looks best in its segment when seem from the back.
Tata has also upgraded the interior quality and offers you premium feeling inside this car with all high end features like climate control, parking sensors, power wing mirrors, touch screen infotainment system with voice control, Bluetooth connectivity and navigation system.
Zest will be launched with one engine each of petrol and diesel. The latest Revotron 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine of Zest is likely to produce a power output of 84bhp with a massive torque output of 140Nm available as soon as 1750rpm.
It will also feature the much popular 1.3L Multijet diesel engine with a power and torque output of 89bhp and 200Nm respectively. The diesel version of Zest will debut with Tata’s first F-tronic 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission making it first car in its segment to offer this technology.
Zest is likely to enter our Indian car market in the mid 2014 (May-end, early June) as the company is already heavily promoting this car. The variants and pricing will only be announced at its official launch but looking at its first in class features, futuristic design and technology, the car seems to have an advantage over all its competitors and with an aggressive pricing, it might become a threat to the segment leaders.
We expect the Zest to have a starting price for the base petrol to be well below the Rs 5 lakh mark with the top end model being priced at around Rs 7.5-7.7 lakh ex-showroom. With rivals like the Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Maruti Dzire, the Zest has to be priced right.
