Till now, 2014 has been an important year for all those auto makers who have launched their new cars in India which were first shown at Delhi’s Auto Expo 2014. Maruti is also enjoying tremendous response towards its latest launch the Maruti Celerio which has become India’s first and most affordable car equipped with an automatic transmission (AMT).
That’s not all; Maruti is all set to give mid-cycle facelift to its two largest selling cars, Swift and Dzire which is soon likely to be followed by the promising sedan Ciaz which will be the replacement of their aged sedan, SX4.
Maruti is expected to launch the Swift siblings ahead of the festive season in India as that period is already booked for Ciaz. The updated Swift and Dzire are going to be similar to the current models in terms of technical specifications as they will retain the much acclaimed 1.2L 86bhp petrol and 75bhp 1.3L Multijet diesel engine. However there will be some cosmetic changes in the cars including day time running LEDs, re-profiled front bumper and addition of new alloys and wheel covers.
Apart from these exterior changes, Maruti may add up new dual tone interiors in Swift and upgrade both cars in terms of features. The cars are likely to get new premium features like new music system with Bluetooth connectivity, power folding mirrors and keyless entry which will enable them to take on their respective competitors who currently have an advantage over these cars of having these high end features.
After getting Swift and Dzire prepared for the competition, Maruti will aim to mark its strong presence in the premium mid level sedan segment of cars with their new Ciaz which will battle against the segment leaders Verna, City, Rapid and Vento. Company is betting high on Ciaz as they expect it to do what Sx4 couldn’t do in our market and establish Maruti in the premium segment of cars so that they could plan more premium cars for India as well.
The concept Ciaz shown at Auto Expo looked quite magnificent with its long and wide front chrome grille which adds premium touch to this car. The extended and sharp headlamps further adds aggressiveness to this car. The rear profiling of Ciaz seems to be inspired from their most ambitious yet failed product, Kizashi giving it a superior look than its competitors.
We know it will be hard for Maruti to keep the production version of Ciaz similar to its concept (as seen in case of Kizashi) but if they can manage to keep the basic style and design the same then it’s going to be the most stylish Maruti ever produced in our market.
The car is likely to be equipped with 1.4L K-series petrol engine of Suzuki along with the Fiat sourced 1.3L Multijet diesel with a power output of 90bhp.The biggest USP and magnetic factor about Ciaz will be the entry of AMT which will surely make it the most economical car in its segment. As far as features, space and performance is concerned, we will have to wait till its launch to see how much Maruti surprises everyone with their new midsizer.
