The new BMW X5 is already considered to be one of the most fuel efficient in its segment and now, it is set to be even more so. BMW has just showcased the new Concept X5 eDrive at the 2014 New York International Auto Show.
The company sees this vehicle as the next step in reducing fuel consumption and emissions of SUVs. The BMW Concept X5 eDrive succeeds in fusing the driving experience provided by the xDrive intelligent all wheel drive system and a luxurious interior offering high versatility of use with a plug-in hybrid drive system.
A conventional internal combustion engine will also be working in tandem with the electric motor to maximise range and power. With BMW EfficientDynamics, the car will be able to drive on electric power alone at speeds of up to 120 kph for a distance of up to 30 kilometres. The vehicle is equipped with a 245 hp, 4 cylinder petrol engine and a 95 hp electric motor. To ensure a high level of crash safety, the high voltage battery developed for the BMW Concept X5 eDrive is housed underneath the luggage compartment.
