German automotive manufacturer Mercedes-Benz wants to raise the bar for SUV makers everywhere with the new Concept Coupé SUV, a design study vehicle that incorporates a flowing side line, stretched greenhouse and a striking radiator grille with a central chrome louvre.
The vehicle also gets muscular wings, large wheel arches, imposing 22 inch alloy wheels, a high beltline and generous ground clearance. Mercedes-Benz has worked hard on its drivability, giving the Concept Coupe dynamic handling on the road.
This has been achieved thanks to air suspension, networking of the powertrain and suspension and a variable dynamic control system called the ‘Dynamic Select Control’ that provides four fundamentally different transmission modes and an individually programmable setup.
Additionally, the Concept Coupé SUV will be equipped with features such as all LED Multibeam headlamps and turn indicators that operate with a moving digital light band whose illumination elements light up sequentially from inside to outside, indicating the change in direction in two ways.
Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz commented, "The Concept Coupé SUV stands out thanks to its extreme proportions and in doing so interprets our hallmark Mercedes coupé design idiom perfectly. With its superior sportiness it conveys a sense of modern luxury and aesthetic aspirations of sensual clarity". He describes the vehicle as “sensual as a coupe, visionary as an SUV”.
