Volkswagen, one of the largest automotive manufacturers in the world, had recently showcased their new, face-lifted Polo hatchback at the Geneva Motor Show held earlier this year. It is now confirmed that this car will arrive on Indian shores in a few months time.
The new Volkswagen Polo has received some minor cosmetic surgery, but the most significant alteration is the engine – which is a brand new, 1.5 litre, 4 pot diesel unit. This has been done so that the new Polo can get the excise benefits that apply to cars which fit under the 4 metre length requirement and are powered by engines no larger than 1,500cc.
Despite being smaller in size, this engine is expected to generate the same amount of power and torque as its 1.6 litre predecessor. One can expect the same engine to be carried over to the Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento. Also, due to the new engine, the Volkswagen Polo GT TDI will be easier on the wallet to purchase.
The transmissions available for the new Polo will most likely be the same as the ones that were already on offer – a 5 speed manual gearbox and a DSG automatic transmission. In terms of looks, the new Polo gets remodelled headlamp clusters, new fog lights, a narrow strip of chrome in the front bumper and reflectors incorporated into the rear bumper. Inside the new Polo has a new cente console, new steering wheel and new features added. Space is same as before. The new Polo will arrive within a few months time i.e. July end or August.
