Maruti Ciaz, Facelift Nissan Sunny and Ford Fiesta to take on New Honda City, Hyundai Verna

By   |   01 May,2014

Its not just the compact sedan war that is hotting up as in a segment above many new launches are expected to take place soon. The upper midsize segment has seen a strong battle with the likes of the Hyundai Verna and new Honda City plus the Volkswagen Vento doing well with its TSI engine. Now with these new entrants it will be interesting as how the market shapes up.

All three new cars were present at the 2014 Auto Expo though the Maruti Ciaz was only present in concept form but now you can see a near production version which was shown in Beijing under the name Alivio. The Ciaz will be the one to watch out as you can see it is a massive leap over the SX4 in just about everything. The styling is sharp and some of the concept details have been carried over.

The Concept Alivio has overall length of 4,545mm x overall width 1,730mm x overall height 1,475mm. While the final specs of the India spec car is unclear it was revealed that the Alivio has a four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve VVT gasoline engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Ciaz in final production form will be launched later this year during the festive season.

Long before the Ciaz Ford will launch its new Fiesta sedan in India. This is the facelifted version which now certainly looks great. It has got the global Ford design language with the trapezoidal front grille and the laser-cut headlamps and power-dome hood design are spot-on. The interior is sporty as well with lots of tech like Ford SYNC with AppLink. We hope Ford prices it competitively.

Nissan will launch the new Sunny also within a few months time. The changes alter the look of the car and give it an aggressive look. The front now has bigger headlights, more prominent grille, redesigned bumpers with detailing around fog lamps and central air dam. There are new alloys too. Inside you have a new steering wheel with aluminium-finished inserts plus there is an all-new centre console in piano black finish. It also gets features like rear camera, Bluetooth plus ABS with EBD.

The new Honda City has done well and Hyundai has also answered back with the 2014 Verna and both would be tough competitors for these three new cars so its a battle that we can't wait to witness.
