The Ford Endeavour was one of the few premium SUVs which initially gained popularity in India and over the years there has been a loyal customer base for this Ford SUV. The size and muscle power of this SUV has been its USP and it did enjoy monopoly in our market till the time, Fortuner arrived. Ever since, Toyota came up with Fortuner in our market it has managed to be unbeatable with its wide array of talents. Until now.
In order to find its market share back, Ford has launched the updated 2014 Endeavour which is also our matter of interest in this article. You must be wondering what XUV 500 is doing in this competition of these premium SUVs; we know it’s from a different segment but its good looks, powerful performance and relatively affordable price tag is good enough for everyone to give it a thought while buying a SUV in India. In this article, we pit these SUVs against each other and see which one justifies itself the best in terms of pricing and features.
The new Ford Endeavour gets a new front grille, set of wrap around headlamps, 16 inches alloy wheels, re-profiled front bumper and new lockable wheel cover for the spare wheel at the back. Ford will offer 2014 Endeavour in three trims with added features and new styling.
It includes a SATNAV system with Bluetooth connectivity, navigation system and reverse parking camera. Apart from this touch screen system, the car comes with Dual stage front airbags for driver and passenger as standard whereas side airbags are available on the top two trims. ABS, EBD, keyless entry is also some of the standard safety features in this car.
The Mahindra XUV 500 is also a feature rich SUV coming with as many as 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill Hold and Descent control in its top variant. W8 trim also has fully automatic climate control, keyless entry, power foldable mirrors, height adjustable driver seat, steering mounted controls, 6inch touch screen infotainment system and many more.
The top variant of Fortuner is offered with safety features like two front airbags, ABS with EBD, BA and ESP. Earlier Toyota has also added a rear parking camera and sensors in Fortuner. Apart from these, the car has all the premium features like power adjustable, retractable side mirrors, keyless entry, steering mounted controls, 2-Din music system and Climate control with rear a.c vents.
The base and top variant of new Ford Endeavour is priced at INR 19.83 lakhs and INR 23.06 lakhs respectively whereas the fully feature equipped, 4X4 variant of XUV 500 is priced at INR 14.64 lakhs. That leaves us to Toyota Fortuner which wears a price tag of INR 23.41 lakhs for its top model. (All Prices, Ex-showroom, Delhi)
If you have to buy an economical, feature rich 4X4 SUV then the Mahindra XUV 500 is a good choice. However it is not without its faults and if you can spend more then the Fortuner and Endeavour present a more desirable choice. The Endeavour is now better looking and more value and is without a doubt the biggest threat to the Fortuner till date.
