These days thanks to tarffic automatics are in big demand and under Rs 10 lakhs these two could be the best choices because they are also fun to drive. Our choice of cars for this article, Ecosport AT and Polo GT TSI are two different cars which are almost similar in terms of body dimensions and engine specifications but are seen completely differently in our market just because of their physical appearance.
Features and Drive
Ecosport is powered by a 1.5L, 110 bhp petrol engine of Ford mated with a six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. On papers, the power production of Ecosport is a bit more than Polo GT TSI which generates poweroutput of 103bhp. This latest 1.2L turbocharged, petrol engine from VW comes mated with a 7-speed Dual Clutch automatic gearbox. This engine pumps out a torque output of 175Nm compared to the 140Nm of Ford's engine.
Both cars get premium features like steering mounted controls for Bluetooth connectivity, audio controls and safety features like ABS, Dual Frontairbags, rear parking sensors, Hill Hold Assist and ESP which arealso first in class features. Apart from these, Ecosport also has Ford sync system, side and curtain airbags, Traction control and bigger 16 inches wheels.
The Polo GT TSI drives brilliantly thanks to the smooth gearbox and the engine. Performance is a world away from the standard 1.2 petrol and also much better than the previous 1.6 petrol, plus it's also more refined. The EcoSport feels lively too but you have to rev it to extract any performance and yes put the gearbox in S mode or better still shift manually.
Undoubtedly, we bought Ecosport's like anything last year and the AT variant was in big demand as well. When it comes to the automatic variant though Ecosport finds itself quite competitively challenged by the latest German engineering marvel, Polo GT TSI which is currently one of the most refined and powerful hatchbacks available in the market.
It comes with a price tag of INR 9.05 lakhs as compared to the INR 10.42 lakhs price of Ecosport AT Titanium (all prices, on road, Delhi). Both cars surely have different characters and appeal to different set of buyers. It’s completely your choice which car appeals you more.
