India first saw the new Mercedes-Benz GLA class at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo held in February and now, the German automotive firm seems ready to put their crossover on sale in our country.
Mercedes-Benz has opened bookings for the GLA at INR 1 lakh and from the evidence so far, deliveries of the vehicle will commence in the month of September. At first, potential customers will only have the option of buying the GLA220 CDI powered by the tried and trusted 2.2 litre, 4 cylinder diesel engine that produces 167 bhp. This is a retuned version of the engine that drives Merc’s A and B class hatchbacks.
Harnessing this power will be a job done by a 7 speed, dual clutch automatic transmission. On the standard variant, the drive will be sent only to the front wheels but, the 4Matic variant will get all wheel drive.
At the outset, Mercedes-Benz will be bringing the GLA into India via the CBU route, but that could change later on to reduce prices and give the vehicle a more competitive edge. The more lairy GLA45 AMG might find its way onto Indian roads as well.
