Mahindra' much anticipated sub four meter Compact SUV, codenamed S101 is seen testing once again and is clearly visible that its near production ready. This car when launched will straight away lock horns against India's current largest selling compact SUV, Ford Ecosport.
The car is based on company's latest monocoque design and looking at its uncovered body parts, it’s quite visible that car borrows most of its styling cues from its elder sibling, XUV 500. The stretched headlamps with daytime running LEDs go well with the wide stance of this car which surely gives it a macho appearance. Rest of the body parts of the car are still under camouflage and will be unveiled later only.
One interesting thing about this compact SUV is the rear bracket mounted on its tail gate which will carry the spare wheel to be mounted at the back. The combined tail lights are likely to be seen on its body panel rather than its boot gate. Wheel size is still uncertain but it might get 16 inch alloy wheels on its top variants.
S101 is speculated to feature a newly developed 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine and slightly tuned 1.5L 3-cylinder diesel engine which is already serving Mahindra Quanto. The testing mule looks quite production ready and looking at our market conditions, we can expect Mahindra to launch this SUV early next year.
