Bavarian auto giant BMW has a slew of vehicles ready for their launches in India. The next one in line will be the new BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid, the first hybrid car that BMW will put on sale in India.
Poised for its launch in June, the 7 Series ActiveHybrid will be the second most expensive 7 Series in India, with only the 760Li being dearer. The 7 ActiveHybrid will be powered by a 3.0 litre, twin turbocharged, 6 cylinder petrol engine that develops 320 bhp. What makes it different from other 7 Series cars is that the ActiveHybrid also gets a 55 bhp electric motor that, in conjunction with the petrol engine, takes the overall power output to 354 bhp.
Gearshifts are courtesy an 8 speed automatic transmission the routes the drive to the rear wheels. Despite being not at all diminutive from any angle, this big 7 can go from rest to a 100 kph in 5.7 seconds and all the way to an electronically limited top speed of 250 kph.
Another impending launch from the company is the highly awaited and jaw-droppingly hot BMW i8. We all have been waiting to see this car ever since its cameo with Tom Cruise in the Mission Impossible 4 movie and BMW finally is ready to grant that wish! The i8 will be launched in India by the year end. This hybrid vehicle will be powered by a combination of a petrol engine and an electric motor.
The petrol engine is a 1.5 litre, twin turbocharged, 3 cylinder unit that produces 231 bhp and the electric motor takes it up to a total of 362 bhp. But what’s more impressive is the phenomenal 570 Nm of torque at your disposal. If you put your foot down, 0-100 kph can be dispatched in 4.5 seconds and the top speed is electronically-limited to 250 kph. Despite this capability, the i8 can return an amazing 40 kpl if driven carefully.
