Yup, you heard that right, Volkswagen has plans to launch the Up hatch next year. Earlier Volkswagen did abandon the idea of launching the Up but now its back and rightly so as this is a market that Volkswagen should not miss out on. Volkswagen which did not have any major launch in a long time will be launching the new Polo within a few days but as you all know new products are needed too.
The Volkswagen Taigun SUV launch is still some time away hence the Up will be a crucial launch for India. India will get the RHD five-door version as expected which is suited to us. The Up has a simple yet good looking design which will appeal to all plus its compact (3,540 mm long, 1,641 mm wide without mirrors, 1,478 mm high). The boot capacity is 251 litres which can be extended to up to 951 litres by folding down the rear backrest. The headroom in the rear is 947 mm, while it is 993 mm in front. Legroom in the second row is 789 mm.
Overall despite being small the Up has been packaged well which means it has very good space inside and the interior is also good looking with clean lines but with an eye on quality. Its too early to talk about engines or pricing but one thing is for sure Volkswagen now wants a big slice of the Indian market and its products like these that will deliver that.
